Shortly before 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 10th, Engine 501 (Chesnut Ridge Volunteers) was alerted for a motor vehicle accident on Greenspring Avenue south of Caves Road and Station 50 in Baltimore County, MD. E501 arrived with a 2-vehicle head-on crash involving a pick-up truck and a commercial truck and reported two patients trapped. A rescue assignment was requested, and command requested two medivac helicopters from Maryland State Police. The victims were freed after excellent teamwork by Chestnut Ridge, Pikesville, Owings Mills & Reisterstown volunteers. Both patients were flown to Maryland's Shock Trauma Center. Complicating matters was a dog that was found in the pick-up. Chestnut Ridge's crew was able to remove the dog, but it wound up under the vehicle and was furiously barking at crews attempting to extricate the driver. Eventually Baltimore County Animal Control was called to take possession of the dog.
