Baltimore County firefighters responded in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, to a "heavy rescue box" on the Outer Loop of Interstate 695 just before Exit 21. Crews had a Suzuki sedan underneath the trailer of a Keystone Frieght Company 18-wheeler, with the female driver of the car pinned. Firefighters used the "Jaws of Life" and a winch from Lutherville Volunteers Squad 303 to extricate the patient, who was flown as a Priority 1 patient via Maryland State Police helicopter to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma center in Baltimore. Units on scene were: Batallion Chief 11, Baltimore County Fire Dept. Engines 2 & 14, Truck 1, Medic 14, and EMS 5. Volunteer companies on scene included Pikesville (Tower 323), Lutherville (Squad 303), Owings Mills (Truck 313), and Reisterstown (Squad 414 & Special Unit 418).
