Shortly before noon on Sunday, March 25, 2012, Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department (Carroll County Company 12) units were alerted for a motor vehicle crash with reported entrapment in front of the WalMart in the 1300 block of Liberty Road in Sykesville. Upon arrival Chief 12 confirmed entrapment and two patients with traumatic / critical injuries. Company 12 firefighters extricated both patients who were transported in serious condition to Carroll Hospital Center and the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. The elderly female who was a passenger in the Chrysler was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Also on the scene was Ambulance 149 from Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department and law enforcement from Sykesville Police, Carroll County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police - Westminster barrack. The crash is under investigation by MSP.
