Shortly after 2 a.m. on Monday, November 17, Baltimore Count, MD westside units were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire at 3501 Essex Road @ Brompton Road (Fire Box 3-3) in Woodlawn. While units were en route, Fire Dispatch advised that Baltimore County Police units were on scene reporting fire showing and possible people still inside the dwelling. First arriving BCoFD Engine 3 reported heavy fire showing from a 1.5 story house, and several civilians were also reporting victims were still inside. Firefighters immediately entered the house and found a woman at the base of the stairs and they brought her outside to emergency medical personnel. The 85-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man were transported via ambulance to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Unit where they are being treated for smoke inhalation in the hospital's hyperbaric unit. The elderly woman was listed as "Priority 1," the most critical level of injury. The 19-year-old suffered non-life threatening injuries. Fire investigators have ruled the fire accidental, caused by a space heater, and estimate that the blaze caused $150,000 worth of damage.
