At 12:33 a.m. Monday, May 31 (Memorial Day), Baltimore County (MD) Fire Department units were alerted to respond to Fire Box 2-22, reported as smoke coming from a house in the 4100 block of Essex Road. As several units arrived in the area to investigate, Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company Tower 323 approached the intersection of Essex Road and Rockridge Road and reported heavy smoke showing from a the roof area of a two-story house at the corner. Firefighters made a quick aggressive attack, including laying several handlines and opening up the roof to vent the fire, which was in the attic and roof area. One firefighter sustained minor injuries while performing interior operations and was treated at Northwest Hospital. No one was home at the time of the fire, and the Baltimore County Fire Investigation Division was called to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
