Shortly before 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2006, Baltimore County Fire Dept. (Maryland) Engine 101 (Towson station) responded to a call for an odor on an upper floor of Virginia Towers, a highrise apartment building for seniors located at 500 Virginia Avenue in Towson. The officer requested a fire HazMat box when crews discovered a fuel spill in a 15th floor mechanical room that was seeping down and producing fumes. Upon his arrival, BC11 (Dave Murphy) called for a medical strike team, bringing additional medical resources to the scene. Firefighters worked to contain and absorb the leak while residents from floors 10-15 were evacuated. Crews from the Maryland Department of the Environment were also called to the scene. One male resident was transported to an area hospital complaining of nausea.
