On Saturday Jan. 20, 2007 at 10:15 a.m., Baltimore County units were alerted for a reported fire on the 4th floor of Balmoral Towers, a 10-story highrise apartment building located at 6800 Liberty Road in Woodlawn, MD. Dispatched were BCoFD BC2, BCoFD Engine 3, E331 (Woodlawn Volunteers), BCoFD E2, E321 (Pikesville Volunteers), BCoFD E18, Tower 323 (Pikesville Volunteers), BCoFD T18, Squad 322 (Pikesville Volunteers), IV335 (Woodlawn Volunteers), BCoFD M2 and BCoFD EMS8. E331 laid out from Liberty Road and found nothing evident from the exterior, however Baltimore County Police were outside the building with a patient who had suffered smoke inhalation. Firefighters from E331 & E3 made their way up to the 4th floor and discovered smoke and fire in an apartment with no fire extension to other apartments, and BC2 requested a second alarm. Squad 322 arrived and its crew conducted a search on the 5th and 6th floors as the Tower assisted with ventilation. The fire was knocked down within 10 minutes and crews remained on location for about 1 hour for ventilation, with the 2nd alarm units canceled about 10 minutes after dispatched. Medic 2 transported one patient to the University of Maryland Hyperbaric Chamber for smoke inhalation.
