Maryland fallen firefighter Robert A. “Bobby” Jones was laid to rest on Sunday, January 30, 2022 after succumbing to COVID-19 contracted while serving as a firefighter in Carroll County. Jones was exposed to and contracted COVID-19 in December 2021 while providing patient care, performing his duties serving with the Reese Volunteer Fire Company in Carroll County. The service to honor Jones took place at Westminster High School Auditorium and included full Line-of-Duty honors, and he was buried at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens. Jones held positions during his volunteer and career fire service in Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Carroll counties. He was a Baltimore County Fire Department career firefighter from 1982, a member of the department’s 65th Recruit Class, until 2012, retiring as a Lieutenant working at Station 4 in Catonsville. Jones joined Reese VFC as a paramedic in the late 1980s and became a full-time paramedic, firefighter and engineer in 2007. Jones’ death was the first line-of-duty death for Reese VFC. Jones was also an active member of the Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Company in Baltimore County, where he remained a member until his death, and volunteered at Lansdowne Volunteer Fire Company and Cape St. Claire Volunteer Fire Company. He was a career-long member of IAFF Local 1311 (Baltimore County Professional Fire Fighters) and Local 5184 (Carroll County Professional Fire Fighters & Paramedics).
