Shortly before 10am on Monday, October 14th, Baltimore County fire units were alerted for a reported fire at the St. Paul Praise and Worship Center in the 500 block of Reisterstown Road in Pikesville (Fire Box 2-20). Baltimore County Fire Department Engine 2 arrived with smoke showing from a multi-story church building and requested the Working Fire Dispatch assignment, followed shortly by Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company Tower 323. Firefighters from E2 and TW323 initiated an interior attack of fire on the first floor and began opening up the structure to search for fire, and the Tower operator repositioned the apparatus off the road at the Alpha / Bravo corner for better access. Firefighters deployed multiple hoselines and supply lines as strong winds pushed the fire into the church’s steeple, and additional crews operating from the Tower’s platform bucket opened up walls and windows. Once the main volume of fire was knocked down, crews repositioned and used saws to expose numerous locations of hidden fire within the steeple. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and prevented collapse of the steeple. The Baltimore County Fire Investigation Division and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were on the scene investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
