Shortly before 6 pm on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, Baltimore County westside fire units were dispatched to Fire Box 13-12, with callers to 911 reporting a vacant building was on fire across from the Social Security complex on Security Boulevard. BCoFD Engine 13, under the command of Captain Stevie Sindler, reported heavy smoke showing while approaching the scene, and upon arrival confirmed they had a fire in a vacant building that formerly housed a McDonalds. Due to the unsafe building conditions, firefighters used defensive exterior operations to fight the fire, including multiple hoselines, ladder pipes from BCoFD Truck 18 & BCoFD Truck 5, and a Blitz line. The fire is under investigation by the Baltimore County Police Department Arson Unit.
