Around 10 p.m. Thursday night May 21, Baltimore County, MD westside units responded to a reported motor vehicle crash with an overturned vehicle on the northbound side of Interstate 795. Arriving first on the scene, the officer on Pikesville VFC Squad 322 assumed command, reporting a flatbed tractor trailer was on its side, had spilled a load of wood across the highway, and was leaking oil. Command quickly requested the Baltimore County Fire Department HazMat Team (Brooklandville career station), which responded with Engine 14, Foam 14, and HazMat 114, to assist with cleanup of the spill. PVFC IV 325 transported an off-duty police officer to Baltimore's Shock Trauma Center after she sustained injuries when her car apparently slid on the spilled diesel fuel and struck the guard rail twice and another vehicle once. Also on scene were BCoFD Engine 19 (Garrison career), Owings Mills Volunteer Fire Company, Maryland State Police, Baltimore County Police, and the Maryland Department of the Environment.
