Shortly before 6 pm Wednesday, October 24, PVFC Squad 322, while enroute back to the firehouse from a previous call, was alerted with other Baltimore County westside units for a motor vehicle crash reported on the Inner Loop of I-695 in the area of Exit 21. While units were enroute, Fire Dispatch advised a van transporting prisoners was reportedly involved in the crash and there may be multiple patients. BCoFD EMS-5 arrived on the scene and reported a Baltimore County Police van and a pickup truck were involved in the crash on the fast shoulder at the Park Heights Avenue bridge. A BLS Task Force (4 additional EMS units) were requested to the scene to transport multiple patients, each of whom had a police guard, to an area hospital. Units were on the scene from BCoFD career stations 2 (Pikesville) & 3 (Woodlawn) and from the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company, Chestnut Ridge Volunteer Fire Company and Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Company.
