Firefighters on Baltimore County's west side battled a 3-alarm apartment fire in Pikesville that started shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday, April 19 at 130 Slade Avenue (Fire Box 2-25). BCoFD Engine 2 arrived and the officer reported smoke showing in the lobby area of a 6-story apartment building and passed command to the officer on Pikesvile Volunteer Fire Company Engine 321. Firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke blowing out several windows on the 4th floor in the rear of the building and were getting reports of multiple residents trapped in their units. A 2nd alarm was struck, bringing additional resources to the scene as firefighters began attacking the fire using handlines on BCoFD Truck 18's aerial and the ladder pipe while interior crews advanced additional lines and performed searches. Several residents were assisted out of the building by firefighters, including at least two occupants who were safely evacuated via Owings Mills Volunteer Fire Company Truck 313's aerial. Command eventually requested a 3rd alarm, additional EMS resources and an MTA bus to shelter the displaced occupants. The American Red Cross responded to assist residents.
