Shortly before 530pm on Wednesday, September 25, Baltimore City Fire Dispatch alerted Local Box 14-1 for reports of a building on fire in the 1700 block of West Pratt Street in West Baltimore. While enroute, the officer of Engine 14 observed a column of smoke and requested a full box assignment. Upon arrival, firefighters were met with fire and smoke showing from several floors of a 3-story mixed occupancy vacant structure. Firefighters attempted an interior attack, however defensive operations were ordered by the Battalion Chief as conditions worsened. A Working Fire Dispatch was requested, along with a response from Water Tower 1, and firefighters placed several handlines in service to knock down the fire.
