Randallstown, MD - October 28,2008 - Minutes after 2300 hours, units on the west side of Baltimore County, MD were alerted for a dwelling fire at 3807 Pikeswood Drive (Box 46-4)in Randallstown. An initial call to 911 reported a matress fire, but a Baltimore County Police Dept. reported heavy fire when they arrived at the scene. BCoFD Engine 18 (Randallstown career) arrived with fire venting from windows on Sides C and D with some flames visible from the roof, and immediately requested the working fire assignment. Upon the arrival of Tower 323 and Squad 322 (Pikesville volunteers), the Tower crew began throwing several ladders, conducting a primary search and assisting Engine 18's aggressive attack on the interior. The Squad crew performed horizontal and vertical ventilation by removing the windows and opening up the roof. Low visibility, intense heat and narrow hallways made the fire attack difficult. One member from Company 18 sustained minor burns during the fire when his helmet got knocked off; he was transported to Bayview Burn Center. As some interior crews made the push down the rear hallway, others breached walls to locate the fire. Crews were able to contain the fire fairly quickly to a few rooms on the side and back of the house. During the operation, a second firefighter from BCoFD Engine 41 (Catonsville career) also received a minor injury and was transported to Bayview Burn Center. The homeowner sustained minor injuries and was transported to Northwest Hospital.
