Baltimore County, MD firefighters were called to Comfort Villa Assisted Living, 4501 Essex Road, in the Gwynn Oak/Pikesville around 1930 hours on Jan. 4, 2007. Arriving crews called for a 2nd alarm when faced with heavy fire from the third floor rear of a large balloon construction dwelling. First-in crews made a quick knock on the fire, and 6 people (4 residents/2 staff members) escaped without injury. Investigators said a malfunctioning exhaust fan sparked the fire.
