Just after 11:30 pm Thursday night, December 30, westside Baltimore County units responded to a reported house fire in the 3700 block of Cedar Lane in the Gwynn Oak community (Fire Box 3-14). Baltimore County Fire Department Engine 3 from the Woodlawn station arrived with fire showing from several windows of a 2-story single family house, with reports of an occupant trapped inside. The intensity and amount of fire quickly increased, as firefighters stretched several hoselines and prepared for an initial attack and search, and a Working Fire Dispatch was requested. Firefighters from Engine 3 and Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company Tower 323 located and removed the victim, transferring him to the care of waiting EMS crews. The 25-year-old man was transported to an area hospital in critical condition and tragically died a short while later. Baltimore County fire investigators determined the fire started in the home's kitchen and was accidental.
