Shortly after 10 pm on Wednesday, April 6, fire units on Baltimore County's westside were alerted for a report of smoke coming from a house in the 7400 block of Prince George Road (Fire Box 2-21). Baltimore County Police 4th Precinct units arrived and reported heavy smoke showing from a house in a wooded area, and upon arrival, Lieutenant Roody on first-arriving Engine 321 reported a vacant structure about 40 percent involved in fire. Firefighters had to deal with heavy fire and smoke conditions and limited access to the approximate 3,000 square foot building that once housed the Pikesville Swim Club. Crews laid multiple hand lines and blitz lines and fought the fire defensively for several hours. At the height of the fire, Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company Engine 321 was pumping several handlines and its deck gun. The building, built in 1966, formerly housed the club's snack bar and locker rooms.
