Shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday night June 2, Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company Engine 321 was alerted for an unknown type fire at the Milford Mill Metro station. While responding, crews observed an orange glow in the area of the station and upon arrival found a fire burning on the tracks. Firefighters used pressurized water and dry chemical to extinguish most of the fire, and requested Tower 323 to assist at 10:14 p.m. Upon the Tower’s arrival, Engine 321 hooked to a hydrant and the Tower crew executed a "flying standpipe" procedure, raising the ladder over a station wall and extending hose onto the tracks, enabling firefighters on the tracks to finish extinguishing the fire. Maryland Transit Administration facilities personnel and police also responded to the scene.
