Garrison, MD - March 21, 2010 - A 12-year-old boy was reportedly behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang on Sunday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. when he struck a BGE transformer on the sidewalk of a Garrison, MD townhome community, causing a power outage for dozens and hazardous materials to leak into storm drains. Baltimore County Fire Department Engine 19 was dispatched to a reported vehicle vs. transformer crash at 24 Baroness Court (Box 19-3) and while en route was advised that a power outage was also being reported in the area. Upon their arrival E19 found the car had struck the transformer, starting a small fire. E19 laid a supply line to a nearby hydrant and requested a second engine (Owings Mills Volunteers Engine 311) and after consulting with the BCoFD HazMat station also requested HazMat 114 and the Maryland Department of the Environment to help control fluid that was leaking from the transformer into drains and possible a nearby stream.
