Around 630pm on Tuesday, August 6th, Baltimore City firefighters responded to reports of a building fire at the Chicken Castle business at 1300 Greenmount Avenue, at East Preston Street. First arriving firefighters reported fire and smoke from a two-story commercial building at the end of a row and attempted an interior attack, but were forced to operate defensively due to deteriorating conditions. The fire extended to several attached buildings, and BCFD used multiple handlines, deck guns and ladder pipes to extinguish the fire. Officials are investigating whether a lightning strike contributed to the fire; there were heavy storms in the area and BCFD battled heavy fire in a church around the same time as this fire.
