Shortly after 6 p.m. on Wednesday July 4, 2007, Baltimore County's 911 center began receiving numerous phone calls reporting a fire at the Swan Motel, a residential motel located at Washington Blvd. & Interstate 695. Engine & Truck 5 (Halethorpe station) arrived with heavy fire & smoke showing from the 3-story section of the World War II era building, and quickly requested a Working Fire Dispatch. "Firefighters began an interior attack and knocked down a lot of fire" and then changed to defensive operations, said BCoFD Batallion Chief Bruce Kesting. Residents self-evacuated, and no injuries were reported. A 1-story section of the motel attached to the fire building was not affected, but tenants were temporarily relocated to another motel across the street.
