Brooklandville, MD - May 14, 2011 - Around 8 a.m. Saturday May 14, Baltimore County and Baltimore City fire units were dispatched to Interstate 83 southbound between Ruxton Road and Northern Parkway for a crash involving 2 overturned vehicles with entrapment. Engine 14 (Brooklandville station) arrived at the scene 1 mile north of Northern Parkway (Exit 10) to find a car on top of a guardrail and a pickup truck overturned onto the passenger side and blocking lanes of traffic. The driver of the pickup was trapped; firefighters from Engine 14, Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company Squad 303, Baltimore County Fire Department Truck 1 (Towson station) and Baltimore City Fire Department Engine 44 (Roland Park) worked to cut the roof off the truck and extricate the driver. The driver of the other vehicle involved self-extricated. Both patients were transported to area trauma hospitals. I-83 was closed during rescue operations and traffic was backed up several miles. Maryland State Police are investigating the crash.
