On the way from a Mets game at the new Citi Field (our first visit) heading to see my family in the Hamptons for a visit, kids and I encountered heavy traffic on the Long Island Expressway, a little odd for 330 on a weekday afternoon.... as we approached Bayside, a decent amount of smoke was visible off to the passenger side, banking over the highway. Quickly I realized this was the source of the congestion, and was able to get a real quick look at grey/brown smoke that was rolling heavy.... I exited @ the next exit and made my way back to the area of the smoke, still unsure what was burning.... the 9yo shouted "Daddy, smoke!" and I pulled off to a side street... turned out it was an auto that had been off, at the intersection of Horace Harding Expressway & 211th Street.. only a few blocks from where I went to high school :-) The guys from E326/L160, located a few blocks east of the incident, had most of the fire knocked by the time we arrived but I managed to get a few pics of the guys working.
