On Friday October 27, while the Baltimore City Fire Department held a Line of Duty Death funeral for Firefighter/EMT Rodney Pitts III of Engine Company 29 who died following a 2-alarm dwelling fire on October 19, fire apparatus from departments across the state of Maryland filled in at BCFD firehouses. Shortly after 230pm, mutual aid units were alerted for a reported apartment fire at 4011 Fordleigh Road at the Fordleigh Apartments. Filling in at the nearby quarters of BCFD Engine 46 and Truck 27, Engine 64 from the Easton Volunteer Fire Department in Talbot County and Tower 3 from the Westminster Fire Department in Carroll County were first to arrive and reported smoke showing from a low-rise apartment building. Additional units dispatched included Delmar Fire Department Engine 741 (Wicomico County), White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company Engine 201 (Baltimore County), District of Columbia Fire Engine 9, Savage Volunteer Fire Company Truck 6 (Howard County), Anne Arundel County Medic 33, and chiefs from Cecil County, Howard County and DC. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke on the building's second floor and hoarding conditions in an apartment, with a mattress on fire. Crews quickly knocked the fire and ventilated the building. One occupant was treated for smoke inhalation. Baltimore County Fire Department Air Unit 11 and a BCoFD Fire Investigator also responded.
